container home in Texas

Our landscaping turned out amazing! Dale did such a great job. We found these corkscrew grass and pansy container garden "fillers" on clearance at the Bastrop, TX Lowe's for only $5 each, so we got eight of them. There are five on the right of the stairs and three more on the left. Walter added his little baby bunny metal yard art to the right side. It kept blowing over in its previous location under the little oak trees across from the container home, so this is a much more appropriate spot. I think some seasonal kale plants would look really awesome near the bunny too!

I decided to go with cedar instead of pine fencing boards to build the skirt around the deck. For now, it is very aromatic when we pump water from the pond to water the plants because it's fresh. There is plenty of cedar on the property to keep that aroma going! I also told Dale to place the cedar boards horizontal rather then vertical for the deck skirt. This adds a much more interesting and modern feel to the deck. We spread rye grass seed all around the container home so hopefully it will be sprouting up in the next 10 days or so. And have I mentioned the vineyard in the back along the property line? Dale planted twenty vines of black marukka grapes! Grape stomp next Fall!!!

Cold Day in Smithville, Texas

Cuddling with my Caya dog while Wawa sleeps on the futon inside the container house.   Wonderfully cold and loving it!

Working on the plumbing.  The hot water pipe runs along the top of the metal container roof and is painted black to absorb heat throughout the day.  Surprisingly, with just an average diameter of PVC piping running the length of 40 plus feet, there is enough hot water to have at least a 5 minute shower!  During the summer it only takes a few minutes for the sun to heat it right back up.  Think: water hose sitting out in the yard on a hot sunny day.

We had ducks in the pond today!

Our sweet baby boy!

We saw Bigfoot!
Only joking! That's just Brad , my 13 year old!!

Deck on Container Home in Smithville Texas

After the container was leveled, we began building the large deck that spans the middle section of the container.  It is approximately 12 by 24 foot deck with a tin roof supported by cedar logs we took from dead trees on our property.  These cedar logs are about 8-9 inches in diameter, and they look so nice!

We also added the fence around the deck along with locking gate to protect our toddler.  Here, he is petting his little bear sculpture we got him at the Bastrop Lowe's!  He loves to run around on the deck "helping" us prepare dinner.
