A blog of our progress as we build a shipping container house for a home on our peaceful Texas Hill Country farm and vineyard. Our plan is to exist off the grid using a solar panels power station, wind turbines, batteries, inverters, and the like for our electricity. We have rain gutters and barrels in place for most of our water needs along with a large pond that stayed full even throughout the recent Texas droughts. We invite you to grab a big ole cup of coffee and follow along in the fun!
I just found your blog this morning! Love what you are doing. We are wanting to do some of the same things can you tell me a little about permits and such for living off grid? I cant seem to find anything on the subject. Thanks! Crystal
We have solar panels on our home in Houston which only required approval by the HOA. Our container home that is totally off the grid is on our land, 9.25 acres in central Texas. This piece of land has no restrictions, so we can do anything legally withou permit. We plan to hook up our solar panels and wind generator (windmill) to the bluebonnet electric coop and sell it back, hopefully resulting in a monetary check each month!
